MCWS 2024 championship preview: What's at stake for two legendary programs - ESPN

Tennessee and Texas A&M have never won a MCWS title, but someone's legacy is about to change this weekend. There are banners mounted to the towering walls of the main concourse, listing every champ, five teams at a time. And finally, there is the mural on Mike Fahey Street, one of the most popular pregame selfie spots, with pennants posted for every college baseball program that has ever been the sport's last team standing, er, dogpiling. So are their respective baseball programs and athletic departments. But pain is also a huge part of Tennessee's and Texas A&M's sports personalities. Summitt's last national title came 16 years ago. Tennessee's last football natty was a decade before that. Its last NCAA team championship was in women's track and field in 2009. College Station just added a women's tennis trophy to the case one month ago, but in a city built on football tradition, the Aggies' last gridiron national title was in 1939.Twentysomethings and gray hairs, utility players and All-Americans, all rolling into the Midwest for a hardball homecoming, perhaps with the Hollywood -- no, Omaha -- ending that has eluded these proud programs ever since the Men's College World Series first played ball nearly 80 years ago. That was easier to live with back in the day, when college baseball was still largely a West Coast sport. But over the past decade and a half, Tennessee and Texas A&M have been forced to watch teams from their conference win nine of the past 13 MCWS.

How can students compare (and appeal) college financial aid award letters?

No two financial aid offers are the same. Here’s how to compare college financial aid letters to select the right school for you. This document outlines the total price of attending that college or university and the various sources of funding you could access to pay for it. Those sources could include things like scholarships, grants, a work-study program, and student loan offers.Your net cost is more important than the COA because this is the amount you are responsible for providing. Your net cost can be paid from a combination of cash, savings, income, loans (federal or private) and other self-help aid (such as work-study programs). In some cases, there might be opportunities to appeal financial aid offers with colleges.University scholarship: Any scholarship provided directly from your college or university. Be sure to understand any requirements associated with the scholarship, as some require that you maintain a certain GPA. Restricted scholarship: Includes any scholarships awarded to you based on meeting certain criteria — anything from your ethnicity to your geographic location or programs of study. For instance, if School A’s price is $40,000 per year, and the college offers you a $10,000 grant and $30,000 in loans, your entire need for the year will be covered. But this is a loan-heavy offer. On the other hand, if School B’s price is $50,000 a year, and they offer you $25,000 in grants and scholarships, $15,000 in loans, and $5,000 in a work-study program, you’ll be responsible for coming up with $5,000 on your own or with your family for the year.
